Hurd and Soft-Lite were the recipients of World Vision’s Humanitarian Awards, which were presented during the recent meeting of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). Soft-Lite received the Window Humanitarian Award, while Hurd received the Door Humanitarian Award.

World Vision’s Mary Garcia presented Hurd’s award to company representative Doug Barnett, who is based in California. Scheduling conflicts prevented Soft-Lite representatives from attending.

“Hurd Windows and Doors and Soft-Lite have been enthusiastic participants in World Vision’s mission to serve those affected by poverty,” said Garcia. “We’re thrilled that our mission is the ideal intersection with Hurd’s and Soft-Lite’s philanthropic interests. Their commitment to consistent donations of these essential building materials enables World Vision to continue to help American families and children in need by rebuilding or refurbishing homes in the areas we work throughout the United States.”

Soft-Lite provides windows on a consistent basis to World Vision’s Storehouse in the Appalachian Mountains. Hurd donates doors and windows via its distributors throughout the United States.

“Last year we received a significant door donation from Hurd, which made a huge difference to those in the Chicago and Philippi, W.Va., areas,” said Garcia.

“By donating inventory, your company can take advantage of tax benefits, increased warehouse space, public relations opportunities, visible corporate responsibility and strengthened employee relations – while bringing relief and hope to children and families in need,” added Garcia. “Our Storehouses continue to request standard-sized windows and pre-hung doors.”

More than 3.9 million children and adults worldwide received necessities like clothing, school supplies and building materials in 2009 through World Vision.
