What’s Being Done to Educate the Homeowner on Lead Paint Regulations?

You’re in the door and window industry so if you read this newsletter you’ve undoubtedly read a lot about the EPA’s new upcoming lead paint regulations. So you’re getting certified and you’re getting educated which is great news. But who’s educating the homeowner? Are you seeing a lot being done to this end? What are you doing to get the word out?

Jim Lett of A.B.E. Windows and Doors in Allentown, Pa., appeared on Fox Business News last week to talk about the regulations (CLICK HERE to view it). Then yesterday I heard a report on our local D.C. area news station of a report coming up at 5:00 p.m. that would inform homeowners of this new law and how they can find a certified renovator. Knowing a lot about this issue I couldn’t help but wonder if it was a proactive dealer or manufacturer who contacted the News Station to get the word out.

So my question to you (go to on the bottom right side of the page to answer the poll) is, “Are you seeing local media reports about the new regulations in this area? If no, why not contact your local news station with this news story. By now most of us know these regulations are coming but many homeowners don’t. Don’t let them go to the contractor who is not EPA certified to get their windows replaced.

I’d love to hear from you on this issue. E-mail me at
