Urban Machinery Celebrates 30 Years in North America

2017 marks Urban Machinery’s 30th anniversary in North America. The German company, which is also celebrating its 50th year in business in 2017, opened its first sales and service affiliate in North America in Cambridge, Ontario in 1987. It added an operation in Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1992.

“Thanks to our dad’s vision to position the enterprise as broadly as possible, we finally took the chance to go overseas,” says Thomas Urban, managing director of Urban Machinery in North America. He’s the son of the company’s founder, Josef Urban. “He actually was the first who recognized the potential of the market, then he started with business activities there. This paid off as we are now the manufacturer in North America with the longest experience.”

Urban says he’s particularly glad to see that many of the employees in Fredericton and Cambridge have been with the company for more than 20 years.
