Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) is starting to hammer away at its new sawmill.

According to a company press release, the company will begin work on its Frederickson Industrial site in early 2015. The property was purchased earlier this year with the intent of expanding the company’s milling capabilities in Washington state, where it currently operates in Aberdeen, Mt. Vernon and Centralia.

Lisa Perry, community relations manager for SPI, says permits have been issued to prepare the site, with clearing and grading to start in the next couple of weeks.

“The plan is to begin construction on a new sawmill complex in spring 2015, with lumber operations starting in 2016,” Perry explains. The initial mill project is estimated to provide 150 new jobs to the area, with further expansion possible.

The Anderson, Calif.-based company owns and manages nearly 1.9 million acres of timberland in California and Washington, and is the second-largest lumber producer in the United States, according to the press release.
