Serious Donates Windows for Extreme Makeover House in D.C. Area

August 25th, 2009 by Editor

Serious Materials is in the news again–this time for donating windows to be used in the latest home for the ABC television show, Extreme Makeover Home Edition. And this time the show is not only building a house for a worth family in Hyattsville, Md., but is also rebuilding a community center in nearby Washington, D.C. And if you’re not familiar with the show this all happens in seven days.

DWM was present at the site today and spoke to Robin Roy, vice president projects and policy for Serious Materials, about the project and the company’s focus on energy-efficient windows as a whole.

“We’ve been working for a long time with DOE and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and other parties, trying to find ways to achieve building America’s aspirations of super low energy consumption and zero-energy buildings,” says Roy.

Roy points out that the windows being installed in the home and the school are R6 super insulating windows.

And as far as being part of such a worthy project, Roy is thrilled with that aspect as well.

“This is an absolute treat,” he says. “Every time they [the show] pick a family that is an incredible contributor to the community so it is a joy and an honor to also be a contributor in our small way.”

  2. Interesting that with all the publicity Serious Windows is generating, and with all the references Mr. Roy makes to “working for a long time with the DOE”, he always neglects to point out that he’s married to Cathy Zoi, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the US Department of Energy. Do you suppose that this unique relationship has ANYTHING to do with their ability to grab headlines?
