Royal Tech Buys OEM Shades

October 4th, 2017 by Trey Barrineau

Royal Tech has purchased the assets of OEM Shades, Royal Tech president Curtis Smith told DWM this week. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Royal Tech, which makes popular blinds-between-glass products, will take over OEM Shades’ operations on November 1. The new company will be called OEM Blinds, and Smith says Royal Tech will move the company’s operations from Pennsylvania to  Royal Tech’s headquarters in Taylor, Mich.

According to Smith, the owners of OEM Shades recently announced that they wanted to exit the business and would shut down operations on October 31. Royal Tech began working on the acquisition about four months ago.

“We finally got everything inked last week,” Smith said

Smith says he’s not sure how many OEM Shades workers will be retained in the transition. Royal Tech currently employs between ten and 20 workers.

“We’re going to keep the business actually going and be able to service the big guys,” he says. “The bottom line is, we’re keeping the marketing the same and keeping the prices the same. They’re putting the trust of their baby in my hands.”

OEM Shades Inc. was formed in 1998. It produces and sells window covering products across North America.

Royal Tech manufactures a wide range of fenestration products in addition to blinds between glass, including windows and doors.
