The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA) has released Cypress: American, Sustainable, Carbon-Neutral, a new report that details how cypress and other woods naturally absorb carbon from the atmosphere and how the use of wood building products can help offset a project’s carbon footprint.

“We read headlines regarding carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases contributing to global climate change, and others concerning sustainability issues with wood,” says Nancy Tuck of Gates Custom Milling and president of SCMA. “This report provides architects and homeowners with information about cypress’s durability and versatility that they may not know. Our goal is to spread the word on one of America’s most beautiful and sustainable resources.”

The report also examines sustainable forestry practices, and explains why select harvesting of trees is important to America’s overall forest health and sustained carbon sequestration.
