The door and window industry saw a number of expansions announced last week, including two leading manufacturers and an Illinois-based dealer. Quaker Windows and Doors is set to invest $10 million to boost production capabilities and add to its facility in Missouri. Pella Corp. is acquiring Lawson Industries Inc., a Florida-based manufacturer of aluminum doors and windows, and M&M Home Remodeling Services in Crete, Ill., has acquired Wisconsin-based Sunset Ridge Exteriors.

Quaker’s expansion will include a 100,000-square-foot addition to the company’s manufacturing facility for wood doors and windows, dedicated to the production of Quartz Luxury and Quaker Residential products. Along with increased production capacity, the development paves the way for new product offerings as early as 2024, officials said. Bill Sifflard, Quaker’s chief marketing officer, said the expansion also includes new lines dedicated to supporting some of the company’s newer products.

“We are very excited about the new door systems that we rolled out at [the International Builders Show (IBS)] and are seeing tremendous response and demand,” he said. “This building expansion will include new lines and automation to support our C-Series doors, as well as our M-Series Multi-Slide door systems. This will also free up space for new products that are under development that we plan to introduce at IBS 2024.”

Sifflard said new products are in the works as there remains a “strong market” for wood doors and windows, especially in the Northeast, Southeast and Northwest regions, as well as in “the mountains.”

Quaker’s expansion is set to include an Engineering and Innovation Center on the Freeburg, Missouri, campus. New product design and development, certified product testing, and equipment design and fabrication are all planned for the center. The project has an expected completion date of March 2024 and is anticipated to generate more than 50 full-time jobs alongside the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

“The Engineering and Innovation Center will not only be the home of R&D and product and technology design, but will also expand our thermal and structural testing capability to stay on the cutting-edge,” Sifflard said.

A portion of the facility will be dedicated to the development of the “next generation” of automated equipment to be used in future product lines, he said.

Pella Corp. also announced a development last week that officials said will expand its capabilities in the Sunshine State. Pella’s suite of brands in the Florida region includes Pella, Custom Window Systems (CWS), Avanti and soon Lawson. The sale is expected to close this summer.

Officials said the acquisition of Lawson Industries, which specializes in impact-resistant aluminum doors and windows, and installation, will “enable the company to serve all customers and channels with a robust portfolio of materials, brands and services.”

We’re confident that they will be an incredible addition to the Pella Family of Brands.”

Lawson will continue operating under its brand name, with president Harold Bailey and vice president Ron Bailey set to lead business integration efforts. Lawson’s approximately 300 employees will continue business as usual, officials for Pella said.

Lastly, M&M Home Remodeling Services, recently announced the acquisition of Sunset Ridge Exteriors in McFarland, Wisc.

Sunset Ridge offers complementary expertise in roofing, siding, gutter products, and windows and doors, officials for M&M said. According to the company, the purchase represents a commitment to executing its strategy of pursuing opportunities to build, scale and expand in the U.S.
