The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently presented its Star award to ProVia Door’s facility in Sugarcreek, Ohio, for meeting the highest standards of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). VPP promotes effective worksite-based safety and health. ProVia Door is one of 83 establishments in the state of Ohio to receive this award.

At the award ceremony company president Brian Miller pointed out that the company’s Walnut Creek facility received the company’s first VPP Star in June 2007.

“At that time, ProVia Door was the first metal window and door manufacturer to become a Star site,” he said. “Now, three years later, there are only three Star work sites in this industrial classification–and 2 of those 3 are ProVia Door facilities … This is something to be very proud of!”

He credited corporate safety director Chad Yoder for being instrumental in this process. “His passion for improved health and safety has resulted in an increased awareness of the potential dangers that lie around us each day,” said Miller. “As our minds are changed on matters of health and safety, we act on this knowledge not only in the workplace, but at home and in the community.”

Present at the award ceremony were State Representative Allen Sayre, Tuscarawas County Commissioners Kerry Metzger and Chris Abbuhl, John Stilliana from Senator Voinovich’s office, Jean Wilson from Senator Brown’s office, and Trish McCullough from Congressman Space’s office.

In an address to ProVia Door employees, Metzger pointed out that ProVia Door is an example of how business and government regulation can co-exist. He stated that many times business and government appear to fight against each other; however, the VPP program has enabled both parties to come together for the mutual goal of protecting the health and safety of people.
