Pella Corporation has been named a 2016 Energy Star Partner of the Year for the ninth time and is a fifth-time recipient of the Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“Pella has a culture of continuous improvement, and our team members are honored to be recognized for the sustainable impact we’ve made in our plants’ manufacturing processes,” said Mike Lind, vice president of operations for Pella. “We remain committed to continuing our work to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy.”

Pella’s internal sustainability team and team members at three manufacturing plants completed the Energy Star Challenge for Industry, aimed at reducing energy consumption by 10 percen. The locations include:

• Carroll, Iowa, which was recognized with the Energy Star Challenge for Industry in 2014 for reducing its energy intensity by 14.3 percent within two years. This location produces Pella’s 450 Series wood windows and patio doors.
• Sioux Center, Iowa, which reached a 12.9 percent reduction in energy intensity within two years of establishing its baseline, and achieved the Energy Star Challenge for Industry in 2014. This location assembles Pella’s Architect Series® casement wood window products.
• Shenandoah, Iowa, which makes Pella’s custom-designed windows and experienced a 12.4 percent reduction in energy intensity within one year. In 2013, the facility was honored with the Energy Star Challenge for Industry.

Pella plans to have two more locations complete the challenge within the next two years.

Pella’s team members were able to make reductions in their energy consumption at each of the facilities by improving lighting, implementing changes to building and system controls, decreasing compressed air efficiency waste, and conducting energy kaizen events to build awarenessof everyone’s role in saving energy.
