ODL Acquires Tru Tech Doors

April 5th, 2023 by Travis Rains

ODL Inc. is expanding into exterior doors with the purchase of Tru Tech Doors of Ontario. David Klein, ODL president and chief operating officer, says the development will put the company in a position to deliver customers the “complete door solution” while supporting commitments to long-term growth and innovation.

Jim Oren, ODL vice president of business development, says the idea of ODL becoming an entry door manufacturer has been tossed around for years, even decades. While the move into entry doors was not “inevitable,” Oren called it a “logical move” as ODL’s strategy calls for being a leading solutions provider for door systems.

“It was a matter of finding the right opportunity with the right people,” he says. “Tru Tech proved to be just that.”

Klein says ODL’s strategy includes “being the leading solutions provider for the door system,” adding, “and now, with the ability to manufacture doors, we have begun the journey of delivering that complete door solution to our customers. The company everyone thought should make a door now does.”

John Careri founded Tru Tech Doors, a high-performance steel and fiberglass door manufacturer, in 1998, with the company celebrating its 25th anniversary on February 28, 2023. Careri will join the ODL team as executive vice president and president of the door division, officials say. He will lead ODL’s door manufacturing and development efforts as the company expands throughout North America.

“Tru Tech Doors is thrilled to join the ODL Inc. family,” Careri says. “Their industry-leading products, service, and marketing support are simply second to none. They are an ideal parent company as we look to expand our door product further in North America.”

ODL doors, built by Tru Tech, will be available to select U.S. and Canadian door glass customers.

“Having design control of the entry door will open many different avenues for innovation. It’s certainly our intention to explore opportunities to improve efficiency, function and more. After all, it has always been the goal of ODL to create products that truly make your life better,” Oren says.

ODL looks to retain all Tru Tech employees and its current manufacturing facilities in Ontario. While integration is still being discussed, Oren says the company sees it as “business as usual” for current glass and door manufacturing facilities.

The acquisition is the third for ODL in the last 16 months.
