Thomas “Tom” Channell, founder of Channell Window Systems, died unexpectedly in November. He was 75.

Thomas “Tom” Channell

Channell, born in Northampton, Mass., was the son of Edmund Channell, who worked for window manufacturer Kasson and Keller. Tom’s brother Scott wrote in a memorial that their father’s work as vice president of sales and marketing sowed the seeds of Tom, Scott, and their brother Bob entering the door and window industry. Tom joined Kasson and Keller in the early 1970s. Later, Tom went on to run American Windows in Malden, Mass., and in 1980 became general manager of PVC Industry in Clifton Park, N.Y. In 1987, Tom founded Channell Window Systems, later joining ThermoPlast, a patio door company, where he introduced its system to the U.S. market. Tom dedicated 30 years to Chelsea Building Products after the company bought out ThermoPlast.

Tom left behind his wife of 51 years, Bonnie, as well as his two daughters, three grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, multiple nephews and nieces and scores of family and friends—all who adored him, his brother, Scott, wrote.
