The National Fenestration Ratings Council (NFRC) board has approved Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (LBNL) WINDOW 7.8.71 and THERM 7.8.71 for immediate use.

Users could begin implementing WINDOW 7.8.71 / THERM 7.8.71 as of Friday, August 18, 2023, and the association “strongly recommends” that use of the new version be implemented by laboratories immediately on any current work, since there have been several updates. The release notes from W/T 7.8.57 to present version can be found on the NFRC community website.

Beginning October 1, 2023, WINDOW 7.8.71 / THERM 7.8.71 will be the only approved software for NFRC 700 ratings for new certifications, recertification or revisions/addendums, and WINDOW 7.8.57 / THERM 7.8.57 should no longer be used after September 30, 2023.

NFRC certification of products modeled in accordance with the Component Modelling Approach (CMA) for NFRC 705 certification within CMAST shall continue to use WINDOW 6.3 / THERM 6.3, as CMA is the only program not affected by the sunset date, officials said.
