MI Windows and Doors Reports New STC High

In its most recent round of acoustical performance testing, MI Windows and Doors says it achieved a sound transmission class (STC) rating of 29 for its 1685 double-sliding window.

The STC rating of a window determines how much sound is transmitted through the window and into the home; a higher rating means less noise will transfer into the home. STC ratings can be affected by a number of factors such as glass thickness, number of glass panels, or the spacer used.

MI says it hit the 29 STC rating with its 3/4-inch dual-pane insulated glass. According to the company, most dual-pane units only achieve an STC rating of approximately 26. Using 7/8-inch dual-pane glass constructed with DSB and 3/16-inch glass, MI says it achieved an even more impressive STC rating of 32.
