Six companies that work in the door, window and glass industries are ranked in the 39th annual Franchise 500 list from Entrepreneur Magazine.

No. 179: Glass Doctor

From Entrepreneur: “Established in 1962, Glass Doctor offers complete glass replacement, service and repair to the automotive, residential and commercial markets at locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Glass Doctor is a subsidiary of The Dwyer Group.”

No. 193: Fish Window Cleaning Services

“S. Michael Merrick had lost his job as a bank manager when the window washer for the branch said he was interested in selling his business. Merrick looked at the company’s books and was impressed with what he saw–low overhead and virtually no inventory. In 1978 Merrick and his wife, Linda, purchased the company, renamed it, and Fish Window Cleaning was born. After 20 years of cleaning windows, screens, gutters, skylights and chandeliers in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, the Merricks began franchising.”

No. 302: Window Genie

“Richard Nonelle founded Window Genie in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1994. Although Nonelle had a degree in marketing and finance and a background in sales and management, he knew nothing about the window-washing industry. The business originally focused only on window cleaning services, but Nonelle soon added full-service pressure washing, deck cleaning, house washing and concrete cleaning to the roster of Window Genie’s services. The private company began franchising in 1998 and is still based in Cincinnati.”

No. 331: The Screenmobile

“In the early 1980’s, Monty M. Walker and his sons Scott and Monty L. Walker bought a used tent trailer and converted it into the first Screenmobile. In 1984 they began franchising. Franchisees repair and replace window, door, porch and patio screens, as well as pet doors and pet guards.”

No. 338: Window Gang

“Tim McCullen founded Window Gang in 1986 in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina as a summer job. As the company gained clients, McCullen decided to franchise beginning in 1996. Window Gang has locations along the East Coast from Virginia to Georgia. The private company is based in Morrisville, North Carolina.”

No. 445: The Glass Guru

“The Glass Guru first opened in 2004 in Roseville, California, offering moisture removal for failed dual-pane windows as well as surface restoration for scratched and stained windows. In 2006, the company added glass and window replacement to its available services. Glass Guru locations also offer screens, shower enclosures, mirrors, table tops, doors and specialty products. Franchising began in 2007.”
