Quanex Building Products has announced that Lynnsey Erb, daughter of Quanex’s Joe Erb, is the latest recipient of its annual William A. McHattie Scholarship, named in honor of Quanex’s former president William A. McHattie.

The scholarship is given each year to Quanex employees’ children who are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to receive a four-year grant for undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. The grants are funded by the Quanex Foundation.

Erb attends Indian Valley High School in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, where she has excelled academically while participating in a variety of extracurricular activities including the school’s drama club, basketball team and chapter of the National Honor Society. She also participates in her church’s Bible study program and youth group.

Erb has long been interested in health and medicine and enjoys practicing yoga and cooking healthy meals. She will attend the Aultman College of Nursing & Health Sciences full time this fall, where she has already studied for credits in high school.

“Receiving this scholarship has taken a weight off my shoulders,” she said. “I am honored to receive this award to further my education and to become a nurse. It allows me to focus on my course work without being overwhelmed with the stress of college expenses.”

Erb plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing and to then become a registered nurse.

In April, a McHattie Scholarship was awarded to Meghan Hummel, daughter of Quanex’s Sean and Karen Hummel, who plans to attend Ohio State University.
