Endura Products Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Endura Products Inc. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against GPI Millworks. The lawsuit asserts that GPI infringes Endura’s rights in certain U.S. patents, granted by the U.S. government and owned by Endura, related to two of Endura’s door component products, according to Endura.

Endura alleges that copies of its products are being marketed and sold by GPI Millworks as the Outswing Door Sill and the Angled Weatherseal Pad with Back Leg. Company officials say they hope the court will enjoin and prohibit all infringing importation, manufacturing, sales and use, and will award Endura monetary damages.

“We have an obligation to protect our representatives, dealers and customers who face competition from those who are selling products that copy our protected designs,” says Endura president Bruce Procton. “We continue to make substantial investments in our intellectual property in order to develop and bring to market new and innovative door solutions. Sometimes, lawsuits like this one are our only option to address this sort of unfair competitive practice.”

Ryan Chapman of GPI Millworks issued the following statement to DWM magazine regarding the suit.

“After 18 years in business, this is the first infringement lawsuit or any lawsuit GPI has ever received,” says Chapman. “Only one of the two products named in the suit has had any sales, and those sales have been very minimal.  We do take the complaint seriously.  We have engaged counsel and hope to resolve the matter promptly.”
