The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) will hold its annual Summer Committee Week at the Marriott Courtyard in Downtown Providence, R.I., June 21-23.

BHMA reports that its members will be continuing discussions on sustainability, a major topic at last year’s conference, with sessions this year focusing on the outcomes from the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) hearings, which take place May 16-22. The results of the IGCC meetings could have a significant impact for the builders hardware industry with additional sustainable and energy-efficient requirements needed to meet this new code.

With regard to standard and code development, members are preparing upcoming standards to integrate with the trends in technology. With new innovative design, door hardware is coupled with electronics that can increase security measures or give the user many more options than the conventional locking systems.

“These meetings are especially important for our member companies who are working hard to improve standards for the building and construction community, architects and specifiers,” says BHMA executive director Ralph Vasami.

Other topics include a review of standards for exit alarms and locks, electric strikes, low power operators, finishes and materials, and new standards for ligature resistant hardware and multi-point locks.
