Angie’s List to Make Reviews, Ratings Available for Free

March 11th, 2016 by Casey Flores

In a release to its investors, Angie’s List has announced a new growth plan, which will change the way users access businesses’ ratings/reviews, including a free option.

Instead of having to pay for access to the company’s reviews, site visitors can view them for free while experiencing advertisements, something the company is calling “freemium.”

Its impact on business owners is going to be beneficial, according to the company, but only for those with good reviews.

Early pilot results from these changes have shown significant increases in consumer engagement and service provider value, according to a release put out to Angie’s List investors.

“We expect this shift to be highly beneficial to companies with good reviews on Angie’s List from the increased traffic alone,” company spokesperson Cheryl Reed told DWM. “Adding in ‘Leadfeed’ and other options for proven good performers and it just gets better.”

Lenny Benin, installation manager at Action Windows & Siding in Hartford, Conn., says that while his company gets business from Angie’s List, he has doubts about the free service’s ability to deliver as quality of leads as before.

“It might give us more leads, but I think people are more serious customers when they have to pay money,” he says, explaining that leads from Angie’s List in its current form means customers are not shoppers, they’re actually buyers. “Will we get more quality leads? I doubt it.”
