American Innovation

“This country was founded and built by people with great dreams and the courage to take great risks” — Ronald Reagan

Many times we are told of the demise of the American dream. We are told that America is in permanent decline, that the innovation of the past that drove our economy is in retreat.

I disagree. Why?

America is home to 16 of the top 20 universities in the world. Americans patented 155,000 items in 2015, and there are 3 million American patents in the U.S. Patent Office. American patent creation has grown over 50 percent  since just 2009. Just like its military superiority, America’s lead in innovation is unrivaled. Ten years ago, every source talked about America’s troubling reliance on Middle East oil. Today the U.S. leads the world in oil and natural gas production, a direct result of the shale revolution spearheaded by American companies. Eight of the nine largest tech companies are located in the U.S., and 30 percent of all R&D money worldwide is spent here. The investment is paying off.

The U.S. government alone spends $54 billion per year on pure research funding:

The total R&D expenditures of America also lead the world:

Our American innovation success is based on our heritage and our culture. We are who we are because our revolution was a genuine revolution that was fought for the sake of good principles, yielding the land of the free, populated by self-governing people devoted to virtuous living. We succeed because we make a conscious decision every day to look out for the liberty of others, and protect the liberty of others, and defend their rights. America is great because her mission is peace, protection and prosperity, and her passion is liberty.

Our industry is a reflection of our country. We are innovative and focused on improving our business. We spend on research and encourage our partners to innovate. We are there to help when help is needed and support our local communities in many ways. Our industry leaders are always striving to provide the best and most innovative products to our customers at an affordable price.

I encourage all of you to research the heritage of innovation that America has created and to continue it at your company.

Keep innovating!
